2008 Tainui Annual Golf Day |
A total of 28 players turned out on Sunday 15th June to support this year's 2008 Tainui Golf Day held at the Logan City Golf Club at Meadowbrook.
A mixed group of ladies and blokes, from local and interstate; including self-confessed hackers, amateurs, and pros ranging in age from 16 to 65 (and with handicaps from 8 to 36) tee'd off from the first hole through to the ninth and then once more around the block to complete the 18 hole Ambrose (four ball best ball) game.
Despite anticipated dogged determination and some fierce competitive edge; these were nowhere to be seen on the day, instead there was lots of laughs with some hard case driving, putting, and plenty of lost balls.
Nobody really took their game seriously, it was really about joining up with mates, supporting our fundraiser, and breathing in some fresh air and getting heaps of exercise that appealed to the majority of players.
A truly enjoyable and fun day was had by all with many a golfing yarn, joking and laughter shared over lunch, drinks and during the prize giving presentation.

Last but not least, thank you to each and every one of the 28 players who in the true spirit of golf, dedicated their time, moni-aroha, and friendship on the day.
As announced during the prize giving presentation, 10% of the day's takings shall go towards a local up and coming sports person or individual who has made significant sporting contributions within the Brisbane Maori community. Key Co-Ordinators of last year's Inaugural Tainui Golf Day Kevin Nelson, Steve Bennett and Marama Haggie have come together again to organise this year's Tainui Annual Golf Day 2008. Both Kevin and Steve are passionate about their sport and are avid Golfers themselves, both are also members of the Brisbane based Kiwi Golf Club. Members of this club hit the Green at every opportunity and have an impressive blend of male and female, Maori and Non-Maori, and affiliations to numerous iwi. All very different individuals with a common love for the sport. Marama Haggie has been a key member of the Te Timatanga Hou o Brisbane no Tainui Committee right from its conception and has taken on numerous roles and responsibilities, including more recently Chairperson and Secretary in the earlier years. It is with much appreciation that Marama continues her mahi working with both Kevin and Steve in bringing together what promises to be a day of challenge, aggressive competition and a barrell of laughs if last year was anything to go by.
Experienced and amateur golfers are all invited to take part in what is not only a fundraising activity for TTHT, but also an activity that promotes being active and healthy, a coming together of friends and family and participation in a sport that requires a high level of skill and accuracy. The challenge has been put out there for participants from last year's competition to compete as well as encouraging fresh players. It is more or less guaranteed there will be plenty of personal bests to challenge and overcome and new friendships to be formed over the day, so come along and sign up now.
Check out last year's results.
