About Us

Te Timatanga Hou o Tainui no Brisbane (TTHT) is a not-for-profit organization that affiliates with the Waikato-Tainui tribe. Its membership is diverse and is not exclusive to those of just Tainui descent. People of other iwi, haapu and other cultures are always welcome. TTHT was founded in October 1997 and have been incorporated since March 1999. TTHT receive an annual Tauraahere (Marae) grant from the Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust, which is an important business/administrative unit of our Tribal Body based in New Zealand, to assist with the administration of the organization. TTHT is also funded through its financial memberships and various fund raising activities. An executive committee oversees and administers all TTHT's activities. General Meetings have in the past been held bi-monthly at various locations in and around Brisbane due to the diverse locality of our members. Due to poor attendance these have been extended to quarterly. Meetings are pre-determined at the beginning of each financial year and the details of these are published in the TTHT newsletter.

Our Goals are to retain and raise awareness of our culture while living in Brisbane as well as link expatriates with their homeland. We aim to bring our people together to support and awhi (help) them as we strive to live in a foreign land. Te Timatanga Hou o Tainui no Brisbane aims to promote Raupatu, Spiritual, Educational and Social awareness and growth amongst its members in Queensland.

Some of TTHT's more notable activities over the years have included a Rangatahi Ball, Music Workshops, Kapa Haka, Socials, Winning Touch and Netball Teams, Hangi Drives, Christmas Parties, Family Days, the Bridge to Brisbane Fun run, hosting visits from NZ groups, Screen printing & Craft making, Aboriginal Cultural Exchanges and the Koroneihana Festivals among many others.

Te Timatanga Hou o Tainui no Brisbane celebrate their 10th Anniversary in October 2007 with a 10th Anniversary Silver Jubilee Ball to be held on Saturday the 6th October 2007 at the Southport RSL on the Gold Coast.
